Happy New Year & Welcome Back

Despite the poor weather at the start of term we have got off to a flying start with New Year's resolutions in place and a fresh determination to make the most of everthing that the term promises.

The Year 8 Leadership Course on Wednesday evening was a fine example of this with the whole year group working together to plan ahead for their League chapel services, the forthcoming public speaking competitions, World Book Day (prepare for some exciting fairy tale costumes), some new eco initiatives and the writing of a changing room charter to ensure that our changing rooms are sensible and safe places. My congratulations to Year 8 on such a constructive evening and we look forward to your leadership in these areas.

I understand that quite a number of families did not access our Christmas Quiz in the newsletter and draw your attention to this again.  Please can I encourage you to take evey opportunity to support the work we do in School with some fun learning at home.  This would be a good starting point. New GAP Students

Four new Gap students have arrived this term - Emma Davis, Brett France, Nick Grove and Katie Neill - we hope you will make them very welcome.

Government League Tables

You may have noticed in the press that Government GCSE and A Level  League Tables were published this week. Unfortunately Felsted is not represented as it should be as IGCSE and International Baccalaureate results are not included. These syllabuses are world recognised challenging qualifications but do not register in the Government tables. We feel it is important for you to understand why Felsted does not appear as well as it should do despite getting very good results each year. A more detailed explanation can be found here.

Charity Coffee Morning

Winter Warmer Coffee Morning In Aid of Project Peru

Friday 22 January 2010 - Courtauld Centre Common Room from 8.00am - 10.00am (Coffee & Tea Available)

There will be a cake stall to raise money for the children of Casa Hogar in Lima.  If you are unable to attend you can make donations at www.justgiving.com/Tristam-Tredgett.

Smythies Go Football Crazy!

Football is a fantastic way of bringing people together- why not Felsted Peru?  In the shanty towns of Lima, where we (Project Peru) run a refuge for children, you only see ragged t-shirts and sandy shorts - no colourful strips. This is where you could make such a difference!

Would you donate your strip, whether Manchester United, Arsenal or West Ham ...it would brighten up the lives of the children in our refuge and in the community, not only at Christmas but all year long. They have nothing, but with your help they could ‘bend it like Beckham’.

Please bring your strip to school and give it to Cameron Tredgett - the Smythies League Charity Rep.  We request that it is washed and in good condition…just as you would want to receive it!  Your strip will be going to Lima in January!

For more information please contact Tristam Tredgett on 01371 821395, Project Peru; 01483 576093; http://www.projectperu.org.uk.  Reg.charity number: 1049413
