From the Parents' Association
The PA would like to thank everyone for their support this year and is pleased to say has raised nearly £5,000 for the new swimming pool cover. Our most recent fund raising activity was the Second Hand Uniform sale, which was very well supported and had such positive feedback that we have decided to hold a sale each term . We will therefore ask parents to donate on a continual basis, leaving the uniform in the school office, this will then be stored and brought out for each sale. We are sure lots of you will have unwanted uniform at the end of the year so please do donate it for our sales.
For the forthcoming year we are going to try and embrace a more family approach and so we have come up with a series of events that we hope will be fun for all! In the Autumn term we will be running a children's fete in conjunction with the Year 8's after the Harvest Festival on 19th September. Our annual Christmas Fair will be on 13th November in the Roed Hall and will be extended to 4 hours due to popular demand from the stall holders and shoppers, and the childrens games will take place again in the Ross Hall.
In the Spring Term, we will be supporting the Year 8 Fashion Show initiative and will be looking for wonderful clothes to model as well as fabulous models !! Please do let us know if you can help with either of these. Alongside the Fashion show, we will be holdiing an Art Exhibition of art or crafts produced by the children or their parents, and we will auction these at the end of the show.
Finally, in the Summer Term we will be holding the first 'Felsted Triathlon'. There will be men and women's teams of three, one will swim, one will bike and one will run. The exact distances are to be confirmed and Mark Burrett is going to help, advise and train us for the Triathlon, but the distances will be such that you do not have to be a professional Triathlete to take part. The aim is to run a fun event in which lots of us will be able to participate, but if not, come along with a picnic and cheer your friends and family on!
We do hope you will be able to support us at these events next year, and from September we will also have a page on the website saying who we are, forthcoming events and how much nearer we are to getting that swimming pool cover!

Cricket v Old Buckenham Hall
U9 A: In the last season of a year with a 100% win record, the pressure and some accurate OBH bowling proved too much, and we lost by 8 runs, OBH scoring 73 off 20 overs and us 65. A mid-order stand by Oliver Stonham and Hamish Paulin, with Alex Martine holding on at the end were the batting highlights. Several bowlers took wickets, Harry Nicholls getting two in a row, and the fielding was fairly sharp.
The U9B and 1st XI teams also won.
Athletics
Good luck to Mikey Barton and Lara Peck who will be taking part in the National Athletics Championships in Birmingham next week.

Crucial crew pictures in H:\tresources\PHOTOS\2010\Year 6 Crucial crew
Year 5 and 6 have been enjoying the final weeks of term with many interesting activities. I am pleased that they have all thrown themselves so wholeheartedly and are getting a good deal out of the endeavours.
Year 6 Passport - on Monday 5th July at 6.30-8.00pm Year 6 will be celebrating the Passport awards. This is an opportunity for parents, staff and pupils to enjoy a selection of some of the achievements during the Passport activities as well as the awarding of medals. Year 6 will be presenting, performing and hosting the evening and I look forward to seeing you there.
Crucial Crew - on Tuesday 22nd June Year 6 went to 'Crucial Crew' in Thaxted. We arrived and went to the park to have a picnic lunch. We then went on to a tent where we were given numbered fluorescent bibs and split into different groups with children from other schools. The activities included; how to react if someone collapses, dangers of smoking, cyber-bullying, drugs and the law, bike safety, train safety, graffiti, fire safety and alarms, bullying and shoplifting.

Each activity involved moving to a new place and meeting new group leaders who made the sessions fun and challenging. After each activity had finished we went to the tent and were asked if we had had fun? We agreed that we all enjoyed it very much and I learned that if there is a fire you get out, stay out and call the fire brigade out!

News from Stewart House
We were very pleased to see a great number of parents who came to support the children for the swimming gala on Monday. Despite the intense heat, the children enjoyed the event and everyone, including the parents, took part with great enthusiasm! It was good to see all the children demonstrating their swimming skills so confidently.
A reminder that our Sports Afternoon will be held on Monday 5th July on the Prep School sports field behind Courtauld House. The first race will start at 1.30pm. Please ensure that your child brings their clean sports kit, sunhat and water bottle to school on Monday. Please apply sun protection at home in the morning. Parents are invited to take part in the parents’ races, so you are advised to wear suitable shoes! If the weather is wet we will not be able to hold the sports afternoon on Monday, as we cannot risk the children running on slippery grass. In this case, the event will be held on Tuesday at the same time.
Term ends on Wednesday at 11.45 am for Stewart House pupils. The staggered collection times are intended to reduce congestion in the car park, so please try to keep to them.
With best wishes for a very enjoyable holiday.
Jane West Can you help run a Science
Masterclass?
I am writing to invite parents who have professional careers in science, or just a keen interest in this subject, to come into School to talk to our pupils in Year 7 and 8 about their area of expertise.
This activity could take place on a Saturday, between 10.30-11.30am and would involve working with around 10 pupils in the Science laboratory. This session can be run in any way you feel appropriate but could involve a short presentation, question and answers or hands-on activities.
We are hoping to run these Masterclasses once every half term and any parent volunteering to come in would only be expected to do one of these talks. A member of the Science Department would also be available to work alongside you and help with any resources.
Clearly this would provide a wonderful opportunity for the children and a great way to help them understand how science is used in the wider world.
If you think you might be interested in supporting this idea please mail Mrs Bury cfb@felstedprep.org. Tennis Day for Air Ambulance
Many thanks to everyone who supported the Tennis Day on Wednesday. Over £1100 was raised for the Essex Air Ambulance.
