From the Headmistress

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the new term. I hope you have all had a wonderful
Easter break and that this sunshine has put you in a great mood for
the summer. Your children seem to be well and happy and looking
forward to the challenges that the term is bound to bring. I hope you
are pleased to see the car park carefully marked out and thank you in
advance for continuing to observe our car park code. You will also be
pleased to read about our new appointments for next term, but sad, as
indeed we are, to learn about those that are moving on. We will be
celebrating their very convincing contribution to the School on Speech
Day (invitation enclosed) and at the end of term.

Next week is Green  Week and there are some new and exciting initiatives to develop the  eco warrior in us! Equally we have election hustings to look forward  to imminently and a mock election on 6th May. Please do discuss these topical issues with your children.

Mrs J M Burrett

Speech Day

You are warmly invited to attend Speech Day on Saturday 3rd July (this day is compulsory for Years 5 - 8 and their parents usually attend and is optional for children in Years 3 & 4; prizewinners' parents usually attend, but all are invited).  The day begins with Choral Matins at 10.00 am in the Chapel, followed by refreshments and Prize Giving and Speeches at 11.30 am in the Grignon Hall.  The Guest of Honour is Mrs Ann West MBE JP DL, Guardian of the Round Square.  This will be followed by a Reception on Cloisterfield which we hope you will enjoy.  Further details of the events on the day will be forthcoming.

News from Stewart House

Welcome back to the Summer Term from all of us at Stewart House. We have already had four fun-packed days, with plenty going on!

Reception have enjoyed a sunny walk to the village allotments to see if anything is already growing and tasted spinach, chives and parsley! Mouse, Rabbit and Hedgehog Classes will return to the allotments at the end of term to look for any changes.

Reception at Allotments

Year One have started their project on ‘Kings, Queens and Castles’. To celebrate St. George’s Day, they have been painting dragons, writing stories and designing their own shields!

Year Two have embarked upon their ‘Healthy Living’ topic, thinking especially about the importance of drinking lots of clean water this week. They have been studying the water cycle and should be able to talk you through the first part of a super powerpoint on www.eswater.co.uk/thewatercycle.aspx entitled ‘Water Made Clearer’. You may like to look through the rest of the presentation with your child. Interesting stuff! Preparation for cricket and rounders is well underway in Year Two as well. Please practise throwing and catching at home to develop hand-eye co-ordination.

He won his young audience of talented players round by getting them involved and sharing his journey which started where theirs is now. He offered his services as mentor to any young athletes.  Please email him at  sjb235@ex.ac.uk.
